The incident took place in Orange County around 8:15 a.m., Monday, Oct. 23 on I-84 in Maybrook.
Trooper Steven Nevel of the New York State Police said Jean P. Cherry, age 66, of Middletown, was traveling on I-84 eastbound when his 2004 Toyota Tundra exited the roadway and entered the Wallkill River.
Cherry was ejected prior to the vehicle entering the river and he was transported to Westchester Medical Center with serious injuries, Nevel said.
There were no other occupants.
As of Wednesday, Oct. 25, Cherry is still in the hospital for observation. There are no life-threatening injuries, Nevel said.
No charges have been filed to date. An investigation is underway.
